It’s crazy when you know that the sahaba (RA) and the salaf (RH) lived in a far more religious and chaste time-period than our current one…
And yet they never delayed marriage.
In fact, they looked for any and every reason to get married as quickly as possible.
We, on the other hand, live in the most hypersexualized and sexually degenerate era so-far in human history…
And yet many of us today delay marriage way past the age when we start developing sexual desires, feelings, and urges.
Rather, we seek out every reason and excuse to delay marriage.
It is reported that ‘Abdullāh b. Masʿūd – Allāh be pleased with him – said:
“If I had ten days left to live, and I knew I would die by the end of them, and I had enough time to get married, I would get married for fear of temptation (fitnah).”
Sa’īd b. Mansūr, Al-Sunan article 493.
Tell me, what temptations did they fear that were worse than the temptations we are bombarded with in a single hour of every day?
This was the way the salaf feared falling into sin yet we who are more likely to fall into it have no fear.
What are the excuses many people use today to avoid marriage even when they are on the verge of Zina?
We seek refuge in Allah from zina and all that leads to it.
